More Information on the Yonsei University Direct Enroll Program

Yonsei University's Visiting Student Programs offer opportunities to students who plan to study for a year or a semester in Korea's top university located in the heart of Seoul, the dynamic capital city of Korea.

In addition to gaining academic excellence, international students are also exposed to a beautiful and culturally rich environment and can share special memories and experience Korean culture by participating in various Yonsei clubs and activities for international students

More information about Yonsei's study abroad program can be found here: Study Abroad at Yonsei

Academic Calendar

MIT students will be studying at Yonsei for the equivalent of MIT’s fall or spring semester.

Fall Semester Dates: End of August to Mid-December

Spring Semester Dates: Mid-February to mid/late June

We recommend verifying start and end dates directly with Yonsei: Yonsei Academic Calendar

You must meet the admissions standards outlined by Yonsei University.

MISTI applicants need to:

  • Have a GPA of 4.0 or above
  • In good academic standing
  • In good judicial standing
  • Up to date with the Communication Requirement

Contact MISTI if you have questions about your particular situation.

Two-part application process:

  1. Apply directly to Yonsei University by the stated deadline for the program/term you wish to study abroad. You are applying as a visiting (individual) student, NOT an exchange student. More information about the application process can be found here: Application
  2. Apply through MISTI for approval to study abroad. Apply by the deadline for the term in which you plan to study abroad.

Study Options

Courses are offered in English and Korean. We highly recommend you take at least one Korean class before going to study abroad Yonsei University.

Yonsei offers hundreds of courses in a variety of subjects. You can find the full list of subject areas offered - including a wide range of engineering and Korean culture courses - along with information about how to access the course list through the Study Abroad at Yonsei Handbook.

Transfer Credit

Information on the transfer credit process at MIT can be found here.

For this program, you will pay for tuition, accommodation, and other living expenses directly to Yonsei University or in-country (depending on the category of expense) and not to MIT.

Financial aid is portable for this program. A few months before departure, SFS and MISTI will share with students the most up-to-date budget for participation on the program based on an agreement with Yonsei.

Admitted students who receive financial aid should make an appointment with the financial aid representative to whom they are assigned to discuss the particulars.

Yonsei University does offer housing for international students in both single and double rooms. There are communal kitchens for students to cook for themselves.

Housing at Yonsei is limited, so, if MIT students are not granted a spot in housing, MISTI will provide recommendations on how to find suitable accommodations.

Yonsei will provide instructions for how to process the visa. MISTI will provide support as needed.
