Ian Rosado's story

An internship at Université Catholique de Louvain (UCLouvain), working on biomechanics for prosthetics, has led Ian Rosado, a mechanical engineering major, to explore further and pursue a career in biomedical research.

UCLouvain is a university in Belgium with a large focus on research, and for my project, I worked with Benoit Delhaye's group to better understand the factors that contribute to the ability to grasp and hold objects, including friction and texture, and how the brain interprets these factors in order to optimize the grasping maneuver. This could help improve tactile feedback for prosthetics or even help people with disabilities related to sensation. My role was to analyze frictional data collected during my first week, as well as design a new experimental setup that would simplify the data collection process.

This experience has further solidified my interest in pursuing research related to Assistive Technology that can allow me to help people with disabilities.
