MIT-Brazil Amazonia Seed Fund

A new seed fund launched in Fall 2023, in partnership with Amazonia 2030, to support early-stage collaboration between Brazil and MIT.

Joint teams from MIT and Brazilian universities, research institutes, NGOs and other entities are now invited to submit their proposals focusing on relevant aspects of the Brazilian Amazonian region, and its cities, environment, culture, or communities.
 

Priority will be given to projects that:

• Propose a balanced exchange between the MIT and Brazilian teams

• Demonstrate complementarity between the teams

• Involve undergraduate and graduate students

MIT-Brazil and MIT-Amazonia are part of MIT’s Center for International Studies

$30,000.

Please note that selection board may award less than requested.

Projects must focus on a relevant aspect of the Brazilian Amazon region and its environment, culture, or communities.

Seed fund awards support travel/ field work, meeting, and workshop costs, for exchange between a team at MIT and colleagues in Brazil though grants of up to 30,000 USD, all within the following focus areas: 

• Cities
• Medical Sciences and Technology 
• Climate and Sustainability:
  • Nature-based solutions for Carbon Sequestration
  • Biology and biologic diversity
  • Sustainable economic development
  • Energy 
  • Climate Change adaptation
