How do you get to work? How do you get around in general?

We get to work by car, which NIC sends for us (Prakash, who drives us, is also working on his own projects at NIC including an incense stick maker and a rice planter). There’s also a service called Pathao which works like Uber, but I’ve mostly been walking to explore so far.

What is your work/internship like day-to-day?

So far in the internship, I’ve mostly been getting familiar with the current projects at NIC, particularly the medical delivery drone and the baby warmer. The day to day work has included helping to build smaller scale drones for testing, looking at new designs for the baby warmer, and also a cultural orientation to learn more about Nepali culture.

What is an aspect of your work that you're excited about?

I’m most excited about getting to learn about areas that I haven’t had any experience in, including aerospace and biomedical devices. NIC is also a pretty collaborative environment and there’s a lot of energy in the projects, which makes it a fun place to work.

Have you visited any new/exciting places?

There’s a lot of temples in Kathmandu, and especially in the Patan area where we’re staying, so it’s been really cool to see so many different types of temples and prayer practices.

Have you tried any new foods you enjoyed or seen anything new?

I’ve been eating a lot of momos which I love, and I also tried mutton lungs which was a new experience.
